Lake Placid High School Alumni Association

Scholarship


Annually we try to give out at least two $1000 Alumni Scholarships to deserving Alumni. The decision is based on the quality of the application, completeness of the application and the need of the applicant. We strive to award two a year, (one undergraduate and one graduate/doctorate when possible) but this number is based on the amount of our 50-50 raffle every year. Buying the raffle tickets helps fund this worthwhile program. Those interested in applying should follow the directions listed below.


ELIGIBILITY:

1. Recipient must be an alumni of the Lake Placid Central High School.

2. Recipient must have completed at least one year of higher education and must be enrolled in the next term. (Recipient can be returning to school from an absence, but must be enrolled).

3. Recipient must have an accumulated grade point average of at least a 2.5.

HOW TO APPLY:

1. Applicant must submit a(1) letter of recommendation from a qualified person, preferably a professor or an employer who can attest to his/her intention of continuing his education.

2. Applicant must submit proof of his/her accumulative grade point average and enrollment.

3. Applicant must submit an essay or letter explaining why he/she should be awarded the scholarship.

4. All requirements must be postmarked by June 10
.


THE SCHOLARSHIP:



1. The number and amount of awards depends on funds available.

2. Applicants are judged based on the quality of the application, completeness of the application and the need of the applicant.

3. The scholarship is paid directly to the learning institution.

4. The scholarship is awarded at the Alumni Banquet.

DECISION PROCESS:

1. The decision in based the quality of the application, completeness of the application and the need of the applicant.

2. Committee members must be LPHS Alumni and members of the Alumni Association Board.

3. Committee members cannot serve if a relative is among the applicants.

4. Committee members can take into account a lifetime membership in the Alumni Association if a decision has to be made between two candidates.
